Suntory Whiskey 3D-milled ice cubes that are works of art

Do you take your whiskey on the rocks? And no, I’m not talking about whiskey stones; I’m talking about ice cubes. In Suntory Whiskey‘s latest campaign, they teamed up with Japanese ad agency TBWA\Hakuhodo to offer something more than your standard ice cubes.

Suntory Whiskey is offering the world’s first 3D-milled ice cubes. Each creation is the result of a time-consuming modelling process, where ice cubes are carved to the smallest detail with a precision drill. The effort made to turn each ice cube into a work of art could be equivalent to the brand’s work in creating a one-of-a-kind whiskey; one that requires an understanding and precision.

To decide which design ideas they would use for their ice, the company opened up voting to the public. The final designs were selected, with those who gave the winning suggestions enjoying a glass of Suntory in a secret bar in Tokyo.

There are those who see the time and effort in creating these ice cubes as a waste — the sculptures will eventually melt away. Yet, most see it as pure obsession with Japanese luxury liquors. Either way, these sculptures are a visual treat. Although I’m not sure how easy it would be to enjoy a drink with the Statue of Liberty’s torch up your nose.
