Utah-based photographer and artist John Poppleton‘s personal goal was to create something original and to be different. However, fantasy portraits were never part of his plan. Now that’s what he’s known for. John has created a series of fluorescent artworks, painted directly on the human body.
His bodyscapes combine the beauty of the female form with that of the natural world. Titled Black Light Bodyscapes, these artworks consist of gorgeous nature scenes, painted with fluorescent pigments, on the backs of female models. They’re then photographed under black light to produce extraordinary images.
Featuring spectacular phenomena such as oceans during sunset, mountain ranges under moonlight, and even cosmic scenes of stars and galaxies, the body paintings are quite stunning. John incorporates the curves and shapes of the models into his paintings; making a strong allusion to the feminine essence of Mother Nature on their bodies. In some paintings, the canvas is stretches beyond the back of the model, often extending to face, arms, legs, and feet. In one bodyscape, John even uses the model’s hair as the beginning of a waterfall; her luminescent strands flowing smoothly into the white torrents of water.
Blending elegance and grandeur, the fluorescent paintings embody the exquisite beauty of the universe. Check out the beautiful blending elegance and grandeur in the images below or visit his website here.
