Artist creates eyelid artworks inspired by famous painters

I’ve previously posted some stunning designs that were created on lips, but this makeup artist uses eyes as her canvas to create miniature eyelid artworks. Australian-based Georgina Ryland‘s beautiful artistry is inspired by famous painters, food, animals and more. And while smoky eyes can be beautiful, it’s hard to look unique if you’re pulling out the same makeup tricks over and over again. Perhaps that’s why Georgina thought it was time to think more outside the box.

The award-winning makeup artist has worked at various fashion weeks and on editorial shoots. However, in her spare time, she uses her skills to create incredibly detailed works of art on her eyes and body. Her collection of eyelid artworks, titled #MakeupForAnts, includes creations influenced by famous paintings such as Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ painting and ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ by Katsushika Hokusai.

“I started with a pun. Cat liner,” Georgina writes on Imgur. “Although ridiculously specialized and possibly the most useless application of my skill, I kept playing around.”

The artist hand paints her eyelid artworks on her own eye in a mirror; the incredibly detailed work takes Georgina just short of an hour to complete using tiny brushes with regular eyeshadows and eyeliner to paint the looks. It’s not just eyelid artworks that the young artist creates either. She also studied at the Australian Academy of Cinemagrpahic Makeup and has completed an additional study on prosthetics.
