KFC teams with Huawei to release a limited edition smartphone

Who needs Apple and Tim Cook? Colonel Sanders is launching a limited edition smartphone with Huawei in China; a red smartphone that comes complete with a Snapdragon processor and fingerprint scanner.

With KFC and Huawei both celebrating their 30th anniversary in China this year, the brands have decided to collaborate for the commemoration. And what better way to collaborate than by produce a limited edition smartphone, the Enjoy 7 Plus Android device.

KFC originated in the United States, but it’s now the largest restaurant chain in China with more than 5,000 locations as of early 2017. In fact, KFC is known as one of the most power foreign brands in the entire country.

The limited edition smartphone comes in KFC’s signature red, with the logo of both brands embellished on its frame, together with the year of their debut in China: 1987. The new 5.5in smartphone has a Snapdragon 425 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot and comes with Android 7.0.

Beyond the exterior, you’ll find the Chinese version of the KFC app, as well as a new music app available on the device. The latter enables users to select the tunes that play in KFC restaurants within China; somewhat like a 21st century jukebox. The phone also comes with 10,000 K dollars, a digital currency used by KFC in China.

Unfortunately, only 5,000 models have been produced. If you want to get your hands on this limited edition smartphone, you’ll have to get yourself over to China. A few units might be re-sold internationally, but be aware the cellular bands won’t work in most places; and the build of Android 7.0 on the KFC phone will lack Google services as it is made for China.

For other limited edition releases from KFC, try their finger lickin’ good nail polish and scented sunscreen.
