Real estate agency In hot water for objectifying women in sexist ad

A transit poster popped up recently in the London Underground that’s turning heads for the wrong reasons. Real estate agency Marsh and Parsons has received severe criticism following the release of an advertisement objectifying women.

The transit poster portrayed an old man being embraced by a much younger woman. Although not uncommon in todays society, the ad was accompanied by the tagline, “A charming period property with a modern extension.”

Marsh and Parsons said the poster was not meant to be taken seriously.

“Marsh & Parsons has a recent history of tongue-in-cheek advertisements that compare people to property. And that reflects the range of people we work with who are as diverse as the types of properties we sell and let,” said Chief executive David Brown. “We have always tried to get our message across with a gentle sense of humour. And up until now, our work has been extremely well-received.”

Nevertheless, people were vexed by Marsh and Parsons’ objectification of the female model. And, as expected, some took to Twitter to express their thoughts. Have a look through some of the tweets regarding the ad objectifying women below.

Due to the backlash, the company has decided to take down the advertisement. What are your thoughts on this ad? Do you feel it’s objectifying women?

This is the second ad this month to be removed by a brand; Pepsi was also in hot water for their ad featuring Kendall Jenner.
