Although the Siena International Photo Awards was only conceived last year, it’s already regarded as a prestigious award. Photographers from over 100 countries around the world have submitted their images for the 2016 awards. Results for this years submission of over 15,000 photos have just been announced. Below you can find a collection of the top award winners from categories like travel, nature, and open colour.
These pictures span countless countries including India, China, Bangladesh, Turkey, Cuba, Myanmar and Bahrain. The winning travel photos are currently on display at the Siena Art Photo Travel Festival; a month-long exhibition called “Beyond the Lens” held in the city of Siena, Italy. The exhibition runs until the end of November.
1st Place: Phan Rang Fishing Net Making, Vietnam
In a small village in southern Vietnam, a woman is creating a fishing net in their traditional manner. The manufacturing of handmade nets is still a typical Vietnamese activity for women which they carry on while their husbands are out fishing.
2nd Place: Makkah, Mecca, Saudi Arabia
A multitude of observant Muslims hold the traditional circumambulation ritual around the Kaaba, an ancient building located in the centre of Mecca. It is the holiest place for the Islam community.
3rd Place: Central Black, Bahrain

1st Place: Strawberry Greenhouses, Turkey

2nd Place: Boys Trainers, Mali
A boy was carrying his shoes in his hands as he couldn’t use them anymore. Traveling prepared makes a difference and with the photographers’ sewing needle and dental floss, they patched them up so he could follow his herd.
3rd Place: Floating Market, Malaysia
Water transportation plays an important role in everyday life in South Borneo.
1st Place: The Power Of Nature, Sicily
Magma, ash and gas erupt from Mount Etna in December 2015, rising to a height of several kilometres.
2nd Place: Decisive Throw, Kuril Lake, Russia
The bear fishes in the river, he sits down, puts his head under the water and pauses looking for fish. Once the fish begin to ignore him and come closer, he makes a crucial lunge and catches them with his paws or teeth.
3rd Place: Galaxy Dolomites, Italy
