There are several guidelines that can be helpful when learning to pair typefaces effectively. Designers often wonder how many fonts can be used on one page–there is no hard limit, but my recommendation is no more than 3. Be aware that the more fonts that are introduced, the more difficult it is to create a unified, harmonious overall design. Only using 2 typefaces for a project is ideal–a sans serif and a serif.
