The world’s first sex commercial to promote the act

Sex is used to sell everything from automobiles to real estate, hamburgers, and everything in between. But do people really buy a product just because it has sexually stimulating imagery attached to it? And more importantly, do they respond to it regardless?

The answer is yes. When ads are more sexually provocative, men in particular are drawn to them. It’s simple genetics. Men respond to sexual images, and if your ad creates a sexual situation, it will get the desired response. However, that doesn’t mean it can sell anything. There has to be context.

That’s all fine and dandy, but this begs the question: what sells sex?

As it turns out: pencil sharpeners. An artist who goes by the name of Matus the First claims to have created the world’s first sex commercial; not for a pill, a product, or anything else but the act itself. Here’s what Matus the Fist had to say in an interview with Britain’s Mirror:

“When sex becomes a routine it’s necessary to change something. Therefore this is not a product commercial, because you can’t buy a solution to some things. … I felt though that in some cases it might be important for people to change something in their minds; and this commercial is not only about sex, but also about thinking.”
