In the small village of Leogang, Austria, an epic battle took place between bearded men from all over the world. The 2015 World Beard & Moustache Championships—with even more epic facial hair than last year—showcased more than 300 contestants from 20 different countries.

Since the first competition in 1990, men have strutted their stuff and competed in three main categories: Moustaches, Partial Beards and Full Beards. Within these groups there are 18 sub-categories, including best goatee, best stubble, and a freestyle round where the men are judged based on their creativity and design. Each of these category features three prize winners for the best facial hair.

A panel of skilled judges select what they deem to be the most attractive, original and unusual beards. And while this year’s even is closed, check out highlights from the 2015 World Beard & Moustache Championships below for facial hair inspiration.
