Designer humorously responds to client request to “Make the logo bigger”

“Making the logo bigger!” is a painful punchline among designers worldwide. In fact, this common client request is loathed almost as much as “Looks great. Can you make this one minor change: try the logo with Helvetica?”

If you’re a designer like me, you’ve probably heard this ridiculous client request more than once. However, poking fun at this request is San Francisco-based designer Andrew Wendling. He’s started a humorous Tumblr blog that, instead of just making the logo bigger, deliberately goes overboard with the enlargement until only a small part of the logo is visible. The result is the creation of striking, minimalist-looking graphics that are made up of blocks of colours. The really interesting thing with making the logo bigger is that despite only showing a tiny portion, most people would still be able to name the brand each image represents.

Take a look at a few logos below and see how many you can identify. And don’t forget to check out Andrew’s blog for more logos.
