Become an advertising god with the Award Winning Game

Do you work in the advertising industry? If so, then you know how demanding it can be with very little praise—until you win an award.

Unfortunately, award winning isn’t easy. That’s why Singapore-based designers Callison Neo and David Goh of creative boutique Excaliburp came up with a Kickstarter idea for a tabletop game. The Award Winning Game invites players to pretend to run their own ad agencies in order dominate the awards scene—no matter what morals you need to set aside.

If the ad industry needed it’s own ‘Monopoly,’ this would be it.

Playing the Award Winning Game

The gameplay is simple and is pretty much like the industry itself: set up your own agency, pitch for accounts and make money. You grow by hiring creatives and undermining your competitors. And you’re ultimate goal is to win awards using whatever strategy it takes.

“As fans of tabletop games who spent our fair share of time in advertising, we set out to create a game that’s not only relatable and enjoyable by our peers, but also offers outsiders an honest (but slightly exaggerated) take on the industry,” Mr. Neo and Mr. Goh describe on the game site.

How to play the Award Winning Game

Players have a variety of roles to choose from, including:

From there, you try to win big accounts like Clog-Cola, BMI, S&M, iPotato and Procrastigram. Callison and David have also created dozens of parody logos for the game’s design, which you can view over on their blog.

This game will surely produce a few laughs for anyone in the creative world, regardless of if they’re in advertising or not.

According to the founders, the fun of Award Winning Agency is “less about hard work, passion and more about how badly and creatively you’re able to screw over your friends.”

While in the end they didn’t reach their Kickstarter target, the duo continued working to publish the game on The Game Crafter, which produces print-on-demand tabletop games. Available for US$39.99, you can order one for yourself here.

Or if this isn’t the type of game you prefer, try Ad Agency Bingo.
