Cake on a stick? Why hadn’t anyone thought of this before? Melbourne-based, self-taught baker and cake decorator, Raymond Tan has created Cake Popsicles that almost look too good to eat.
Raymond has garnered quite a following on Instagram for the beautiful desserts he creates; in addition to this signature cake popsicles, he also makes incredibly elaborate cakes that look like modern art pieces.
“While making a cake, I was left with a lot of cake crumbs, and in order to not waste it, I took out a popsicle mold on a whim. And the idea of cake popsicles was made.”
However, if your taste in confectionery leans more towards tacky or cute, he has you covered as well; Raymond’s collection includes cake popsicles that are inspired by unicorns, foxes, pandas and other adorable creatures. His unique style and pastel colours make the popsicles very popular among his fans.
“My ideas come from everywhere,” he says. “I get inspired by food trends, fashion, colours, the season, certain ingredients. It’s quite different from a home baker’s perspective because I get to do whatever I want.”
The cakes, created in the tiny kitchen of his apartment, are often decorated with Raymond’s signature cake popsicles. Two years ago, Raymond went to finish his Masters in Accounting and just hated it. He was determined to finish it, however. The only thing he needed was a creative outlet. Thus, he started baking for his friends.
