Not to judge, but If you’re planning on having sex, wear protection. For women to protect themselves, chances are their using contraceptives like the Pill.

Did you know that the first oral contraceptive wasn’t created until 1960? Imagine what it would be like if you didn’t have access to this modern contraceptive? How does ground beaver testicles mixed with moonshine sound to you? Sounds like less of a contraceptive and more of a turnoff.

According to this video by non-profit organization EngenderHealth, women used some odd things as birth control. Aiming to raise awareness of family planning, this video gives us an eye-opening look at some of the weirdest concoctions women used to prevent pregnancy. Check out the video below:

History’s Worst Contraceptives

In developing countries all around the world there are over 220 million women who want access to contraceptives and cannot get them; this according to the Guttmacher Institute. And if they had the availability that many of us take for granted as we’re waiting in line to fill a prescription, it could prevent 54 million unintended pregnancies, 79,000 maternal deaths, and 1.1 million infant deaths, according to EngenderHealth.
