Nike focuses on sustainable footwear for summer 2019

Today may be the first day of spring, but thoughts of summer are already on the horizon for Nike as they preview their sustainable footwear.

The Plant Colour collection — consisting of the Air Max 95 and the Blazer Low — utilizes plant-based dye as a new way to approach colour and design, while advocating sustainability. Colours include off-white, cream, and dusty pink, with hints of red and blue. The thematic Air Force 1, Blazer Low and Cortez are also designed to give the wearer a more profound appreciation for the planet.

The brand’s Flyleather Earth Day Pack, on the other hand, features products made with recycled leather scraps that would typically be sent to landfill. Those sneakers were designed in collaboration with artist Steven Harrington, showcasing anthropomorphic images of the Earth.

“At Nike, we know that the future of is interlocked with the future of our planet. That understanding serves as our North Star for sustainability.”

The sustainable footwear designs will release throughout summer 2019.
