There are some wonderful examples of paper art out there. Just because we live in a digital world doesn’t mean our love affair with paper has diminished.

Japanese artist Hiroko Matsushita was tasked to create a collection of astrology star signs for FRaU Magazine. She depicts the usual symbols, but in a fresh and unique way; Hiroko creatively fashions her designs out of paper. She cuts out shapes and patterns to form the whimsical astrological signs. Her choice of coloured paper also complements the layers and adds a dreamy touch to the artworks.

“I’m fascinated by the malleable nature of paper such as folding, cutting-out and layering; in terms of transforming flat sheets of paper into figures.”

There are 12 astrological star signs, each with its own strengths and weaknesses; each with its own specific traits, desires, and attitude towards life and people. Some believe that astrology can give us a glimpse of a person’s basic characteristics, preferences, flaws and fears.
