Dolce & Gabbana transforms kitchen appliances with colourful patterns
Black, white or stainless steel kitchen appliances no longer exciting you? Now there’s a new option to turn your kitchen into a fashion statement—and drop a little cash while you’re at it. Dolce & Gabbana has collaborated with Italian appliance company Smeg to create a line of beautiful, brightly coloured kitchen appliances.
Kitchen appliances traditionally aren’t the most stylish of accessories, but the famous fashion brand has created a line products called Sicily Is My Love. The appliance line includes ranges, refrigerators, and other various small appliances clad in gorgeous 1950s Mediterranean motifs. They also include imagery that references Sicilian traditions like puppet theatre and vintage ceramic paintings. Both Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have strong ties to Sicily; Dolce was born and raised in the area and both designers continue to frequent the island, referencing it in their collections.
Deep pockets required for colourful kitchen appliances
Last spring, Dolce & Gabbana released 100 hand-painted refrigerators for the Salone del Mobile in Milan; those fridges have been on sale since last fall. However, for those who aren’t prepared to drop US$50,000, the more modestly priced toaster, lemon juicer, and tea kettle are all available for preorder via Neiman Marcus. You’d best make sure you have deep pockets before purchasing though, as even a simple toaster will set you back US$600.
If you do decide to open your wallet and make a purchase, you can cook up some Dolce & Gabbana designer pasta on their new range.
