For the stout lover: Guinness flavoured potato chips
Tired of the usual bar snacks like peanuts or pretzels? How about snacking on these potato chips flavoured with the familiar taste of Guinness the next time you go drinking?
Created by British brand Burts, these ingenious Guinness-flavoured thick cut, hand-cooked chips will give you a mouth-watering crisp with the bitter sweet flavour of the iconic Irish stout. Originally released in 2012 as a limited edition pub snack, the beer flavoured chips have finally made their way across the pond just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
The chips are available in two flavours, the original Guinness and Rich Beef Chilli.
“Not bad. Not bad at all.” according to FoodBeast’s review. “One taste of these and you can taste the subtle roasted barley and hops flavour”
The chips have an overall dark appearance that mirrors the dark frothiness of a traditional draft stout. They also have a malty, sweet smell, with a hint of chocolate, similar to the popular Irish stout. But that’s where the similarities between beer and chip come to an end.
If you aren’t all that familiar with the taste of a classic Guinness, you might really enjoyed the subtle smokiness of the chip. They’re not exactly sweet, but there’s definitely a malted-fermented taste in every bite. However, true Guinness lovers will be a bit disappointed as the overall flavour profile doesn’t scream “beer.”
Would you like to give these chips a try? Or if you already have, how do they compare to the beer? And if chips aren’t your thing, Starbucks is testing a Guinness-flavoured latte.
