Pantone unveils 2019 Spring/Summer fashion trend report
Every year the team at the Pantone Color Institute comes out with its fashion trend report; an overview of the top colours showcased by fashion designers at New York Fashion Week that’ll be featuring in their collections for the upcoming season.
Colour on the catwalk is a key indicator of what we can expect to see showing up across all areas of design. And you can expect next year’s palette to show confidence and spirit. The Spring/Summer fashion trend report for 2019 will deviate from the earthy colours you’d often associate with the earlier seasons.
Instead, Pantone predicts it’ll be dominated by “lively hues” that are a mix of bright reds and oranges, but also consist of mellow tones. While these hues lend their cheeriness to playful expressionism and push creative souls to trudge down new routes, it therefore comes as no surprise that they’re followed by earthier greens, yellows, and browns.

Fiesta, Jester Red, Tumeric, Living Coral and Pink Peacock are on the bolder side of the spectrum, whereas Pepper Stem, Aspen Gold, Toffee, Sweet Lilac and Mango Mojito appear to be on the softer side. However, for more everyday style, the fashion trend report suggests a palette of neutral colours such as Soybean, Eclipse, Sweet Corn and Brown Granite.
Stores understand that shoppers already have a lot of black in their wardrobes. “Who doesn’t?” asked Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone. “Now, they want something to have fun with or to make a statement with. This spring’s bevy of statement colours aren’t just so over-the-top that they pop off the web site or a page. They are also colours that are bolder, and yet, they’re not so in-your-face that they’re overwhelming.”
