Water manipulating fountain uses colourful lights to shape-shift
If you’re looking to create a relaxing ambience in your home, the sound of water is said to have a calming effect on people. Another way to create that ambience is with light. The lights in your home can make a difference to the way you feel and can even affect your health.
Currently on Kickstarter, Aquarius is a mesmerizing fountain lamp that combines flowing streams of water with visually light effects. Designed by engineer Stephen Co, Aquarius has a constant flow of water that bends, changes colour, and even freezes in place. Incredibly, the use of light in the fountain can also make it appear to defy gravity, flowing upwards. Users can switch between patterns including a helix, the Northern Lights, and more. In addition, the open source design allows you to add new designs.
How the Aquarius fountain lamp works
By using 60 individually addressable LED lights, the bulbs can be set at a high enough frequency to project against a stream of liquid. Since they reflect at various times and places, it creates the illusion of an animation. With the addition of colours, it creates complex hues as well as multi-coloured streams, all within a sleek design that will fit comfortably in your home.
While the water and its animations are Aquarius’ most defining feature, encasing the fountain is a teardrop shape silhouette made from Baltic Birch.
If you think this is the mood-setter you need, Aquarius is now available for pre-order on Kickstarter. Of, if you’re looking for a different kind of ambience, check out this moon lamp.
