Beautiful mirror mosaic creates optical illusions
French designer Arnaud Lapierre has created a mesmerizing mirror installation at the Place Vendôme in Paris. Called The Ring Mirror, it plays with the context of this urban space through reflections, light and the interaction of passers-by.
Arnaud explains, “The Ring is an installation that takes into consideration urban space networking: the rhythm, flow, organization and spatial hierarchy. The installation embodies a visual effect that is to connect all of these interactions through the implementation of an optical effect: the repetition of a cubic mirror to break the perception of the place.”
Thus, by arranging mirrored cubes in a circular layout, the vast amount of reflections and angles warps the areas perspective; this results in what looks like partly digitalized photos. The mirror mosaic was created for the FIAC 2011 Conference and sponsored by Audi. The installation measures 18 feet wide by approximately 13 feet tall.
Although the installation has now been removed, it was re-installed at the Circuit Paul Ricard as part of an Audi event. Finally, after being hosted by several art fairs in Europe, it was eventually put up for sale.
