Funny, minimalist letterpress Valentine’s Day cards
Happy Valentine’s Day! Yes, it’s that time of year again when we spend copious amounts of money to show our loved ones just how much we care.
Each February 14th, people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special someone. But did you know that Valentine’s Day is the fourth most lucrative event in the retail calendar? It comes in behind Christmas, back-to-school, and Mother’s Day. A study by MasterCard shows Americans tend to consider food to be the most important aspect of Valentine’s Day. Canadians, meanwhile, are more likely to splurge on travel. And flowers seem to be losing their appeal: purchases dropped 34 percent from 2013 to 2015.
So, if you’re a bit geeky and food, travel, or flowers are not your style, Californian letterpress print studio Paperwheel Press has designed a series of nerdy cards.
Created by designer Elizabeth Weil, these letterpress cards use funny puns and clever phrases. They’re sure to bring a smile to the face of any romantic geek. The messages in these cards include straightforward ones like “You’re more awesome than inbox zero”, and cheesy but fun ones like “You auto-complete me.”
