Marou chocolate bars wrapped in handmade art

Chocolate has since become a popular food product that millions enjoy every day, thanks to its unique, rich, and sweet taste. In fact, it happens to be one of the most beloved food products in the world. From syrup to ice cream to chocolate bars, chocolate has come a very long way since it first appeared in its solid form in Europe in the 1800s. Today, artists can manipulate and mould this sweet and delicious confection to create works of art or cleverly designed treats. But do we ever spend the time to appreciate the wrapping that it comes in?

Marou chocolate bars

The National Gallery Singapore is a new art museum that opened in downtown Singapore; The gallery houses the largest, most comprehensive collection of modern Southeast Asian artwork in the world. Recently they partnered up with Vietnamese chocolate brand Marou to co-brand a range of artisanal chocolate bars for its museum store.

The packaging design for these beautiful chocolate bars is created by Ho Chi Minh City-based creative agency Rice Creative. Wrapped in authentic and traditional Vietnamese art, the chocolate bars are meant to reflect both Vietnam and the National Gallery’s stunning architecture.

They chose to feature Đông Hồ, a traditional print-making art form. Since the nature of Marou’s chocolate is handmade, it perfectly represents Đông Hồ. Hand-printed by artisans, they also feature motifs that are inspired by ancient Vietnam and modern Singapore.
