Have you ever wanted a piece of furniture that would fit different functions and needs? Lithuanian designer Mindaugas Žilionis has created a piece of furniture that can become any shape you wish with locking sticks.
After 9 years of dedicated work Mindaugas and his team have created a multifunctional chair. As a result, SPYNDI easily transforms into any shape by reassembling its 60 handmade wooden elements. In just 15 minutes you can turn a pile of sticks into many different chairs, lounges and tables. Since it is inspired by the human spine, the SPYNDI is very flexible, strong and fits any individual.
“If you looked at the sketches and first prototypes, you would think that we were creating a super complicated bio-mechanical device rather than a chair. It was a long process but the result is fantastic,” says the designer.
An example of everlasting design and quality, the SPYNDI is a perfect piece of multifunctional furniture that is made of natural birch wood. First presented in 2007, the idea won the first prize in the international design competition “Non Format”. Consequently, SPYNDI has been travelling to other international exhibitions in Sweden, United Kingdom, France, Latvia and Ukraine. It’s been regarded by designers, architects and consumers for its singularity of design, harmony of functionality and aesthetics.
“It does not matter where we show our product the reaction from people is always the same. They want to try to assemble SPYNDI pieces together, to take a seat, to touch it and even to smell it because SPYNDI manages to enchant people from all over the world.”
Because SPYNDI’s team are strong believers in their locking sticks and its quality, they’ve decided to give a lifetime warranty on any purchased during their crowdfunding campaign.
When this article was written, SPYNDI had received €64,696 of their €35,000 goal. They are expecting to start shipping in November 2016. You can learn more about how to create your own furniture on their Kickstarter page.
