The first weird food trend of 2018 is the Crossushi
The rise of Instagram has not-so-coincidentally caused people to better decorate their meals. It’s also gotten people to experiment with new dishes as well. And kicking off 2018 is this newest food trend called the Crossushi.
What is a Crossushi you ask? It’s a cross between croissants and sushi. Playing off the success of the cronut and the sushi burrito, San Francisco-based eatery Mr. Holmes Bakehouse created the Crossushi. It comes topped with sesame seeds and filled with smoked salmon, wasabi, pickled ginger, and nori seaweed. It even comes with Kikkoman soy sauce served on the side.
Understandably, it has Twitter a little skeptical. While some users seem to think that this food love story should remain fantasy, others suppose there’s no harm in giving something strange a shot every now and then.
“Too early in the morning to see a sushi-stuffed croissant.”
“This is a joke. I would prefer a wasabi stuffed croissant,” @mozza_tom replied, while @MischaMoselle simply wrote, “Barf!”
Mr. Holmes Bakehouse also has locations in Los Angeles and Seoul, South Korea, but it’s their delights in San Francisco that has mouths watering. So, if you want to try this weird food creation for yourself, you’ll have to head there for now.
You can also check out other sushi creations like the sushi donuts or limited edition Kit Kat sushi.
