Grope Sans: A quirky and risqué private parts themed typeface
Apparently, Valentine’s Day wasn’t all chocolates and roses. Food design and research studio Bompas & Parr, out of Liverpool, has created a new risqué typeface called Grope Sans. Created for Valentine’s Day, this racy typeface by graphic designer Flo Fairweather, is adorned with nipples, vaginas and penises.
The inspiration for this quirky typeface came from the studio’s Grope Mountain installation. Grope Mountain has been dubbed an obscene climbing wall, where the traditional holds are replaced with genital shaped ones.
Fairweather, who had a great deal of fun designing the typeface, explained, “It’s surprisingly easy to turn most type forms into penises, vaginas and breasts. There [is] up to three variations on each letter, so an even representation of male and female parts can be achieved with every word. Every minor adjustment I made was laughter inducing.”
Grope Sans was styled like a cartoon, using soft, cheery colours. This allows the typeface to be as crude as possible, while keeping the designs lighthearted. The typeface has been used in the Grope Mountain’s event signage, maps and other marketing materials.
Unfortunately, so far the typeface isn’t available to download for personal or commercial use. And there is no word on when or if it will be.
