I’ve previously featured the most expensive doughnut – which costs a whopping $1825CDN. Keeping with pastries, Lisa Sanguedolce, owner of Le Dolci bakery, has created the most expensive cupcake; beating the previous record holding $764CDN cupcake with her $982CDN creation.
This cupcake was commissioned by a man wanting to give his wife something personalized for her birthday. The result is a golden creation sprinkled with diamonds and beer.
The confection is layered with buttercream frosting made with butter from Normandy and cacao chocolate from Tuscan chocolatier Amedei. Not to mention that its pastry cream filling is flavoured with Krug Collection Brut Champagne. Finally, it’s topped off with gold flakes, gold strips and flowers on top; making this treat even more decadent.
The baker also used molecular gastronomy to create caviar bubbles, and a pipette to drizzle 21-year-old Courvoisier cognac on top.
