Chicken meets doughnut in the newest food mashup: Donug
Move over sushi doughnuts, the Donug is latest doughnut-shaped food trend to grip the globe. If you’re repulsed by the idea of a chicken-flavoured doughnut or, perhaps, have your interest piqued by a doughnut-encrusted chicken nugget, it’s not really either of those things.
The Donug is basically a chicken nugget in the shape of a doughnut; it has a ring-like shape and a hole in the middle. According to its official Instagram page, the food mashup is made from chicken, a top-secret flour and spice mix and a crunchy panko and cornflake crust.
Donugs can be made plain or adorned with toppings of your choice, such as a signature cheesy Dijon béchamel, a Japanese curry sauce with mozzarella, chilli flakes or black salt.
The brainchild of a Scottish man named Crag Carrick, it’s already being lauded as the perfect hangover food. And thanks to the backing of Shark Tank Australia, the food mashup you never knew you wanted has been made a reality. Unfortunately, since Crag lives in Australia, that’s where the Donug will be located for now. And while he hasn’t set up a permanent store, the crispy marvels will make their appearance in popups across the country. He is, however, planning to take the hybrid global.
What are your thoughts on this new food mashup?
