This ice cream looks and tastes like a baked sweet potato
The Japanese are certainly known for their odd eating habits, like deep-fried maple leaves. But did you know that yakiimo—also known as a baked sweet potato—is enjoyed by people of all ages in Japan?
A fall treat, it’s usually bought off the back of a truck containing ovens. However, because of the Japanese love of yakiimo, they’ve created an ice cream treat that looks and tastes just like the real thing.
Made by the Imuraya Confectionery Company, this treat has a roasted sweet potato wafer cake with a sweet potato cream filling mixed with sweet potato paste. Then, to give it a baked look, chocolate is added. The last time the yakiimo ice cream was found on store shelves was back in 2011. However, the dessert has finally made a comeback after three years of complaints from die-hard fans.
