15 Ridiculous things people have put on their résumé

No résumé is perfect, but is everything on your resume 100% accurate? Most employers don’t think so. In fact, they’re becoming increasingly skeptical of what candidates claim about their skills and work history.

In fact, one survey found that over 80 per cent of employers believe that candidates are lying on their LinkedIn profiles. 67 per cent of those surveyed said that candidates are most likely to lie about their past job titles and responsibilities. Sometimes its employers are skeptical because of minor errors like a misspelled word or too many buzzwords.

Having a good résumé is one of the most important things when applying for a new job. Although minor errors aren’t favourable in the eyes of the hiring manager, they can easily be forgiven if the candidate is otherwise impressive and qualified for the job. However, blatant lies, inappropriate email addresses, and bad links cannot be forgiven.

“Job seekers understand that there is a lot of competition for jobs today; therefore, they are trying more unconventional methods in effort to stand out and grab the hiring manager’s attention,” says Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder. “These efforts may also likely be misguided attempts to compensate for lacking 100% of the qualifications specified in the job posting.”
