Smirnoff humorously trolls Trump with new transit ad
Whether you like your vodka straight, on the rocks or in your Bloody Mary, there’s a reason Smirnoff received a ton of buzz recently. In its new transit shelter ad campaign, Smirnoff takes a shot at President Donald Trump.
It sparked widespread social media chatter by mocking the Trump administrations’s ongoing scandals involving alleged collusion with Russia.
The ad touts the fact that it has been made in America since 1934, reading: “Made in America. But we’d be happy to talk about our ties to Russia under oath”. A clear reference to Trump’s recent declaration that he is 100 percent willing to testify under oath about his conversations with then-FBI Director James Comey; a man who was fired amid an ongoing probe into ties between Trump’s campaign and Russian officials.
The ad just started to appear at bus stops in New York City and may show up on billboards as well, according to a Smirnoff spokeswoman.
“The recent interest in American-made products created the perfect opportunity to reinforce that fact and the brand’s roots in Russia; with a wink and nod to current affairs.”
Something that’s timely and potentially divisive is not an easy concept to push through the client approval process. However, this is one way for a vodka brand to get people talking about it.
And if you’re looking for a summertime treat to use your vodka with, try bacon-infused Bloody Mary popsicles.
