KFC’s prank for April Fool’s Day becomes a reality

April Fool’s Day may be behind us, but its spirit still captivates the online community as we approach mid-April. This is largely due to marketers who seize every opportunity to make their brand go viral. So, why not transform an April prank into a successful marketing strategy?

Major brands enjoy having fun on April Fool’s Day, and this year, oral care company Hismile made headlines by claiming they would launch a toothpaste flavoured like KFC’s famous fried chicken. The prank quickly gained traction online, prompting a swift reaction from the brand’s marketing team. Believe it or not, KFC toothpaste is now available for purchase in reality!

No longer an April Fool's joke, KFC toothpaste is now available for purchase

To be more specific, it’s nearly impossible to get your hands on it right now. The toothpaste was launched as a limited edition, and both KFC and the oral care brand Hismile have already sold out. KFC even posted on their official Instagram that this isn’t just a joke—fried chicken-flavored toothpaste is real!

Hismile has shared some interesting info on their official site, describing their toothpaste as “the experience of sinking your teeth into a hot, crispy, juicy piece of KFC Original Recipe Chicken. Enjoy the iconic flavour of golden perfection right on your toothbrush for an intense taste sensation.” A single tube is priced at US$13, and you can grab a coordinating toothbrush for US$59.

Additionally, there is a KFC-branded toothbrush available for US$59

This electric toothbrush comes in a vibrant red colour, featuring KFC branding and a classic image of Colonel Sanders. It offers three different brushing modes and includes a built-in timer. However, since this collection is quite limited, it’s probably more of a collectible item than something people will actually use for brushing their teeth.

The manufacturer states that the toothpaste features the same unique blend of 11 herbs and spices that KFC is famous for, a closely guarded secret for many years. Hismile also mentions that it contains fluoride, which is essential for maintaining healthy and strong teeth.

You’ve got to hand it to the KFC marketing team for capitalizing on the buzz from an April Fool’s prank and taking its virality to a whole new level. While unexpected partnerships between brands from totally different industries don’t always hit the mark, this one definitely surpassed all expectations.
