Powerful ads warn about the dangers of child neglect

Child neglect comes in many forms including the failure to provide basic physical, health care, nutrition, emotional, education and supervision needs. More children suffer from neglect in the United States than from physical and sexual abuse combined. 14 percent of victims experienced maltreatment such as abandonment, threats of harm to the child, and congenital drug addiction.

Behaving negligent with a child encourages bigger problems. And in these striking ads that were created by agency D/Araújo Comunicação for Brazilian social organization Fórum Catarinense, they warn against the dangers of child neglect. The ads feature parents unwittingly exposing their young children to a gun and a bottle of alcohol.

The text reads, “Negligence is the lack of physical, emotional and educational care. A sad reality that can open the doors to criminality, school abandonment, sexual abuse, domestic accidents, many times leading to death.”

The ads end with a call to dial a hotline to report suspected cases of negligence. Take a look at them below and share your thoughts.
