Retailer sells US$900 dress that looks like a dry cleaning bag
Lately, retailers have been trying to push their designer fashion, which looks like expensive versions of cheaper items, upon us; much like Prada’s US$185 money clip that looks like a paper clip or Balenciaga’s IKEA-inspired blue tote.
Back in February, Moschino sent a model down the runway wearing a dress which resembled a dry cleaning bag. Little did the audience know that the Moschino Cape Sheer Overlay Dress would be available to the general public. A retailer called Browns is currently selling the dress, designed by Creative Director Jeremy Scott, for US$900.
Just to be clear, this isn’t one of those outfits that just looks like something else. The Cape Sheer Overlay Dress is described to have literally been inspired by a dry cleaning bag. The dry cleaning bag doesn’t come with a slip to wear underneath, so wearers will need to come up with a solution if they don’t want to flash every passer-by. It’s also unlikely to breathe very well. And the ironic thing about this dry cleaning bag dress is that it can’t be cleaned.
So whether you think Moschino’s new collection is brilliant or insulting, it will be interesting to see how this “trashy” piece will sell.
